What MEDIUMS DO YOU WORK IN?
I am primarily a digital artist these days. However, I am trained in ink, gouache, acrylic, oil, watercolor, colored pencil, and some other traditional mediums as well!
wHAT SOFTWARE DO YOU USE?
I do the bulk of my work in in Photoshop CC, though I have dabbled in Clip Studio Paint and a few other programs before.
Besides a simple hard or soft round, I am a huge fan of Kyle’s Brushes.
I use a few Photoshop plugins to make my workflow smoother. For color management, I use Coolorus, and for challenging lines, Lazy Nezumi. In order to view reference images, I use PureRef. Recently I added Brushbox to the mix to organize my literally thousands of brushes!
WHAT HARDWARE DO YOU USE?
My longstanding tablet has always been some kind of Intuos Medium, and it's currently an Intuos Pro Medium.
I recently also got a Microsoft Surface Pro for drawing on the go!
Is art your full time job?
Yes it is!
Did you go to art school?
Yes, I went to a school in the Midwest and got a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration with a minor in Communication Design (a fancy term for graphic design).
Before that, I was primarily “self-taught” (though I think everybody is self-taught, regardless of education), but I was fortunate enough to run into a passionate art teacher in high school who made me buckle down and do the “boring” stuff – still lifes, etc. Around that period, I saw a significant amount of growth. It gave me a good direction for self-guided study in the years to come.
Besides that, I try to frequent various art sites and worshops as much as possible, and am currently taking a few Schoolism classes.
I'm always observing, reading art books, watching tutorials, etc. I never stop learning about art. It’s super fun!
